The process of transforming the (a) original mesh used in the “Aligned-only” analysis generated from computed tomography (CT) data into (b) a Poisson mesh requires the filling of holes using voxelisation and the use of a Poisson surface reconstruction algorithm [50] to generate watertight surfaces from orientated point sets. This allows to fill in the holes and evenly redistribute the faces and the vertices of the mesh prior to decimation. The effect here is demonstrated for the example of Acinonyx jubatus
