Stalks and spores inPvio dgcAˉmutants. Pvio wild type, dgcAˉ and dgcAˉ/dgcA cells were developed into fruiting bodies as outlined for Fig. 4. The structures were stained with 0.001% Calcofluor and photographed under phase contrast (left) and epifluorescence (right). The top and middle rows shows stalks imaged about half-way up and at their base, respectively, while the bottom rows show the spores. Images are representative of two experiments performed with two different dgcAˉ clones and three experiments of the dgcAˉ/dgcA cell line. Scale bar: 20 μm
