Stalks and spores inPvio dgcAˉmutants. Pvio wild type, dgcAˉ and dgcAˉ/dgcA cells were developed into fruiting bodies as outlined for Fig. 4. The structures were stained with 0.001% Calcofluor and photographed under phase contrast (left) and epifluorescence (right). The top and middle rows shows stalks imaged about half-way up and at their base, respectively, while the bottom rows show the spores.
